Mandatory Continuing Education
New York State’s Mandatory Continuing Education Law for the dental profession became effective January 1997.
- Practicing dentists are required to take 60 credit hours for every three years. A total of 18 hours may be self-instructional course work or home study as approved by the NYSED.
- Dental hygienists are required to take 24 credit hours in a three year period. A maximum of 10 hours may be self-instructional course work or home study as approved by the NYSED.
Continuing Education Credits
Continuing education (CE) credits are available for all lectures that meet the NYS Education Department requirements. One hour of credit will be awarded for each 50 minutes of presentation attended. MCE forms for NYS Continuing Education requirements will be given to each attendee upon registration the day of the seminar. In order to verify attendance, a four digit code, read at the end of each seminar must be marked on the Fifth District Continuing Education Form. It is recommended that you retain copies of your CE forms as NYS Education Department performs audits on a random basis.
