Starting Out for New Dentists

The most comprehensive and up-to date reference directory for new dentists in New York State covering regulations, taxes, employees, contracts, patient records, legal updates, licensure requirements, business networks and more.  This award winning book is given to all new members when they attend a Fifth District orientation.

Alerts

Email notifications to members regarding current health risk alerts, recent changes in legislation, and other developments that aid or affect the practice of dentistry.

Continuing Education

Members receive substantial discounts for Fifth District Seminars and the ADA Annual Session and have access to a wealth of CE options and new products for the profession.  At the Fifth District (component level), required courses such as infection control and risk management are offered annually.

Classified Ads

You can place classified ads for free on our website and in quarterly issues of the Fifth District District Bulletin. Staff listings (dental hygienists, assistants, and office managers looking for positions) are also free to staff and can be viewed only by members.  Classified ad placement is also available on the NYSDA website and in The Journal.

Forms for Your Practice

Forms and form letters such as Informed Consent, patient dismissal, HIPPA, and others are available on www.5dds.org for members only.  Sample patient satisfaction surveys at www.dentalpracticehub.ada.org.

A confidential quality assurance program, available to members only, that works to safeguard you from malpractice actions, and subsequent litigation.

Liability Insurance

Members have access to vetted and endorsed liability insurance programs in NYS. Member dentists represent you on underwriting/claims committee in matters involving your insurance coverage and claims.

NYSDA partnered with Henry Schein to offer an e-prescribing software solution for members.

CE Registry

The NYSDA CE Registry is a free recordkeeping service for members.  You have access to your most current records 24/7 at www.nysdental.org and are provided with a free yearly printed transcript. The New York State Education Department, malpractice carriers, hospitals, and other employers accept the NYSDA transcript as verification of CE activity.

Legal Services

The NYSDA Legal Services Panel is a phone call away.  Initial consultations with an endorsed listing of attorneys who have expertise in dental matters are free to members with subsequent discounts on attorney fees.

Contract Analysis Service

The ADA provides free review of unsigned dental benefit contracts for members.

Publications

Free to members, The Bulletin of the Fifth District Dental Society provides local, state and national information, along with meeting dates, CE listings, and classified advertising.  The New York State Dental Journal is a peer-reviewed publication devoted to significant and original scientific articles, and the NYSDA News carries features on practice operations and ethical issues confronting professionals.  In addition, the ADA provides you with ADA News and JADA, the most trusted scientific publication in dentistry.

Fifth District, NYSDA and ADA professional staff offer expertise in many areas and are a local or toll-free call away to assist you.  All staff do their very best to provide help where needed and answer your all your questions.  Websites offer additional support and references.

Dentist Locator Online

When patients Google TM “find a dentist”, we make it easy for them.  A patient can google “find a dentist in the Fifth District” and have immediate access to our own online directory where they can put in parameters of city, zip, distance or just a name. There they will find a member dentist with locator Google mapping.  NYSDA and the ADA also have Find-A-Dentist capability which comes in handy for long distance referrals and catching up with colleagues.

Library Services

The NYSDA Lending Library loans practice management and patient education resources to members free of charge.  Also free to members, the ADA Library contains an extensive collection of books and journals covering all areas of dentistry and oral health, including clinical, research, practice management and historical topics.

Networking

Fifth District events and directories connect you to established peers for referrals, mentoring and support.  CE events are often accompanied by vendors exhibiting the latest in dental technologies.

Government Representation and Legislative Advocacy

NYSDA’s executive staff and professional lobbyist track all oral health related legislation and regulation. Members have the influence of a united voice of an organization representing 75% of all practicing dentists in NYS and NYSDA’s powerful presence in the Legislature.  Joined with more than 157,000 dentists in the ADA, you also have a powerful voice in Washington, D.C., and the state capitals.
