A Message from the CNY Clinical Director for Special Olympics
August 8, 2019
Dear Fifth District Dental Health Provider Colleagues,
Special Olympics will be sponsoring a Super Regional Bocce Event/games on Saturday September 7th at Toccolana Club in Rome, NY. It is right at the Thruway Rome exit, about 35-40 minutes east of Syracuse.
I am seeking volunteers from the Fifth District to help in this worthwhile, fun and charitable event. I need dentists, dental hygienists, dental residents, dental hygiene students, dental assistants, receptionists and other able bodies to help make this a success.
Registration for the event begins at 9 am and competition ends around 3pm. I need volunteers to help set up around 8 am and to tear down around 2:30 pm. We will be doing cursory non-invasive dental exams and hygiene instruction for the special athletes during competition hours. I will be able to stagger times so that you do not have to stay the entire day, unless you want to. Lunch will be provided. If I have enough volunteers, I will be able to assign time blocks of 2-3 hours. Let me know if there are times you are not available.
If you are interested in being a part of the team, please respond with to me at email@example.com, or call my office 315-453-3636 or my cell 315-247-3636 with your name, your e-mail address, phone contact number and what category of provider you are – ASAP.
Special Olympics Special Smiles (SOSS) is a dental screening, education and referral program that operates under the auspices of Special Olympics, Inc. The program is now one of the lead components of the Special Olympics’ Healthy Athletes initiative, created to focus attention on the overall health issues facing Special Olympics athletes. The mission of Special Smiles is to increase access to dental care for Special Olympics athletes, as well as all people with intellectual disabilities.
Thank you in advance for your volunteering – The Special Athletes really appreciate the time you devote to them.
The Special Olympics Athletes Pledge is: “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt”
The SU Football game that day is an away game, there are no local conflicts that I am aware of. I hope to see many of our Fifth District colleagues participating.
See you on the 7th for a Dental and Bocce experience.
